WWDC 19 Roundup – Mac Pro and iOS13 revealed
After an eventful presentation at WWDC 19 – Apple is introducing dramatic changes across all of its platforms.
Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR
Apple unveiled a powerful, all-new Mac Pro and groundbreaking Pro Display XDR. Designed specifically for maximum performance, the Mac Pro features workstation-class Xeon processors up to 28 cores, a high-performance memory system with a massive 1.5TB capacity, eight PCle expansion slots and a graphics architecture featuring the world’s most powerful graphics card.
Alongside the amazing Mac Pro the Pro Display XDR is simply breathtaking. Featuring a massive 32-inch Retina 6k display with gorgeous P3 wide and 10-bit colour. Also an incredible 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio with a supersede viewing angle, all at a breakthrough price point.
Together, the new Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR are the most powerful tools Apple has ever put in the possession of their customers. Changing their workflow forever.
iOS13
iOS13 was announced which will be the successor of iOS12 – which was extremely popular, Tim Cook mentioned, “iOS12 has already been installed on more systems than any version of iOS ever.” Apple experienced 85% adoption of the previous software compared to 10% regarding Android.
The speed of your iPhone will increase with iOS13 opening applications twice as fast. FaceID will unlock 30% quicker, whilst applications will be repackaged meaning they will download 50% onto your device, whilst the updates will be 60% smaller in iOS13.
Separate your personal and work information – you are now able to log in with multiple iCloud accounts on your device. A new login option ‘sign in with Apple’ is also available, instead of filling our forms, verifying email addresses, and choosing new passwords, you can sign in with Apple and start using your app right away.
Dark Mode introduces a dramatic new look for iPhone, the option can easily be turned on from Control Center.
Add a beautiful monochromatic effect to your Portrait mode photos in iOS13. You can also rotate videos whilst applying filters/effects is now an option. There is a new browsing experience for your photographs, Apple provides a beautiful layout for photos, playing videos and Live Photos whilst your browse.
Memoji has been updated in iOS13 with more options for customisation. Automated sticker packs are created from your own Memoji – which can be accessed from the keyboard.
Safari, Mail and Notes will all experience updates in iOS13. Safari can change text sizing and per-website settings. Also, rich fonts will be available on Mail. A new gallery view will be added to Notes featuring shared folder support.
iPadOS
While built on the foundation as iOS – the iPad has become a truly distinct experience which is why iPadOS has been introduced. The Home screen has been redesigned welcoming you to a new refined layout – taking advantage of the large iPad display.
There will be a Slide over and Split View on iPad, Apple has made working on multiple apps effortless. You will be able to see all the spaces you have open with a single app just by tapping the icon in the Dock.
Multi-Touch transformed the way we work on our iPad. Apple has added another gesture with a simple three-finger pinch you can copy text. You can also double tap to select a word, three taps will select a sentence. Whilst a whole paragraph can be selected with four taps.
Browsing the internet on your iPad is so immersive, desktop-class browsing experience is now available on iPadOS. Enjoy the desktop version of websites meaning you can now use web apps like Google Docs, Squarespace and WordPress.
Through the App Store, you can download custom fonts which will allow you to create beautiful documents.
Transforming the Files app you can now access and manage your files however you want, all in one convenient place. SMB files are now supported for file sharing, also for the first time on iPad plug in a thumb drive or insert an SD card and read files directly from either. Manage your workload more efficiently, you are not able to import images directly from your camera to applications such as Adobe Lightroom.
MacOS
iTunes forever changed the way people experience music, movies, TV shows, and podcasts. Welcoming macOS Catalina, Apple announced three all-new, dedicated apps – Music, Apple TV and Apple Podcasts will be integrated into your Mac. There will be no need to panic, everything you had in your iTunes library is still accessible in each app.
Sidecar is a new feature which allows you to extend your workspace by using your iPad as a second Mac display. You can now work in one app while you reference another alternatively you can also view your artwork on your Mac while you use tools and palettes on your iPad.
The all-new Find My app combines Find my iPhone and Find My Friends into a single, easy-to-use app on Mac, iPadOS, and iOS devices. Even if your device is offline and sleeping Find My can help you find your missing Mac – by sending out Bluetooth signals that can be detected by Apple devices in use nearby. These devices can relay the detected location of your Mac to iCloud so you can locate it in the Find My app.
Safari, Notes and Reminders will all feature App Updates, featuring a new start page in Safari. macOS Catalina brings all your favourite Screen Time features to Mac, giving you greater insight into how you’re spending your time. Monitor usage, schedule downtime, and set limits for both apps and websites across all your devices.
WatchOS
Whether you’re seeking more functionality at your fingertips or just want to give your wrist a flash of fashion with Apple Watch, watchOS brings all-new faces to suit your mood and serve your interests. Directly from your wrist you have access to tens of thousands of apps on the App Store. It’s never been easier to find new apps.
There are several new health capabilities on WatchOS. They include Cycle Tracking, which provides insight into your menstrual cycle. This can help create a clearer picture regarding your overall health. Also the all new Hearing Health monitors the noise level notifying you when it may damage your hearing without you realising. Calculator, Voice Memo and Audio Book are all new apps which are featuring on the latest WatchOS.
Accessibility
Voice Control provides a powerful experience using the latest Siri speech recognition technology. Voice Control. Gets even more accurate text transcription editing operating on your iPhone, iPad or Mac entirely by voice.
ARKit 3
ARKit 3 goes further than ever before, naturally showing AR content in front of or behind people using People Occlusion. AR content can now pass behind and in front of people in the real world, creating more immersive experiences. You can now simultaneously use face and world tracking on the front and back cameras, opening up new possibilities.
tvOS
Deliver amazing experiences with stunning picture quality through 4K resolution. With Siri Remote, you have access to three-axis gyro data so you can create even more interactive experiences.
Apple Arcade is a new feature, Apple has joined forces with some of the world’s most innovative game developers. Improving your gaming experience, Apple TV now supports Xbox One and Playstation DualShock 4 controllers.
Allow your Apple TV to become a beautiful backdrop for your living room, with the beautiful underwater screensavers.
AirPods, HomePod, CarPlay and Siri
You can now listen to your favourite song with a friend introducing the ability to stream Bluetooth audio to multiple AirPods. Siri can read your messages to you instantly after receiving them – also allowing you to respond just as quickly. There has also been a massive enhancement on Siri’s voice.
