Sync’s Summer School is designed for children to engage with creative activities using iPad. Children can explore film-making, animation, music-making and drawing – all to share with family and friends.
Join Apple Professional Learning Provider, David Kirtlan, as he leads a series of sessions dedicated to helping children discover and celebrate their digital skills. All you need is an iPad… and a little creativity.
Each session will be delivered remotely via Zoom, and a private secure link will be shared with you prior to the session start. As you create throughout the sessions, you can securely send us a copy of your work using Showbie, and we’ll pick some of our favourites to share with everyone who took part in the Summer School with the final showcase celebration.
We have a wide range of sessions available throughout July and August 2022, including workshops where participants are encouraged to find their DJ Skills using GarageBand, or how about creating your very own documentary using iMovie? Each session will be repeated throughout the four week duration of Summer School, so keep an eye out for the best date for you!

You will need your iPad to work on the Summer School activities. All the apps we use are free, but do please ensure that you have these downloaded prior to the session. You will also need another device, such as a phone or laptop to join the Zoom session. An adult should also attend the sessions to support the children.
Clips is a fun and exciting app to create original video content. We’ll learn how to tell your story, maybe about your hobbies, your town and things that interest you. We’ll add titles and stickers to make the video unique to you (Clips is a free download from the App Store).
In this session we will learn about creating an historical or factual documentary. We’ll explore research skills and collecting facts and images to help us create the final film. We will use iMovie (a free download from the App Store) to create the documentary.
Using the camera on your iPad we will look for shapes that we could use to make up the letters of your name. We will then edit these with Keynote (available free on the App Store) and organise them into your name, before decorating the final collage and animate it.
Do you want to want to send flowers to some one special in your family? Using Keynote (a free download on the App Store) we will create our very own personalised card, exploring the shapes and animation tools available. We can even include voice recordings to send to family.
We all take selfies, but maybe we could make these a bit more interesting with a bit of creativity. Here we will explore a series of challenges based around the Photos App on your iPad, using the Sketches School App to add colour, or maybe turn yourself into a super hero.
Ever thought about writing the next number one? Using Garageband (a free download from the App Store) we’ll explore the loops, and how we can put these together to make a piece of music. Experiment with filters and mix it live like a DJ.
